Morais Vineyard & Winery Wedding

Sometimes when it is 30 degrees outside the best thing to do is “think spring” right?!  Browsing through images of the weddings that we have done and I came across this oh so colorful orange and green wedding with tropical touches at Morais Vineyards & Winery in Bealton, Virginia.  The ceremony took place outdoors with the pergola, which was decorated with strands of crystals and orange Mokara orchids.  The ballroom looked stunning with orange crush linens that had an iridescent shine and provided just the right contrast to the the arrangements which were mostly green flowers with pops or orange.  Last but least, the gorgeous cake!  The flowers used included dahlias, Mokara orchids, spray roses, hydrangea, tick dianthus, hypericum berries and amaranthus.

Katie & Austin’s Stone Tower Winery Wedding

Katie & Austin found the perfect place to host their rustic, elegant wedding within the rolling hills of Leesburg at Stone Tower Winery. In addition to tours and tastings, the local, Loudoun County winery offered the perfect venue for the couple’s outdoor wedding.

Katie and her ladies-in-pink were able to get ready at the venue, with the winery’s beverages on hand. They offered the bride a toast before she walked down the aisle.

Following their vineyard-side ceremony, the couple were able to give their guests a unique, al fresco dining experience. Katie, Austin and their guests sipped signature limoncellos at long tables, under twinkling light strings.

After an evening of dancing, laughter, and celebration, guests sent the lovebirds off to married life through a myriad of sparklers.

Lauren & Sam’s Oatlands Wedding

Lauren and Sam came to us right after they booked their venue, Oatlands in Leesburg, Virginia (one of our favorite times to start working with a new couple). We helped them every step of the way, booking their caterer, guiding them with their wedding invitation wording, creating the beautiful cascading bouquet that Lauren carried down the aisle and overseeing that their entire day ran smoothly. The ceremony took place in the lower gardens at Oatlands, the peonies were blooming and the gardens were already lush and green (a real treat for early May). After the ceremony the guests made their way up the stairs to the upper gardens for cocktail hour. Guests loved mingling through the gardens and touring the property while Lauren & Sam took pictures. After cocktail hour guests made their way to the tent setup in the front lawn of the mansion. Tall centerpieces with bells of Ireland and candles suspended on the branches decorated each table. Congrats Lauren & Sam, it was a pleasure getting to know you and your family, we wish you the best in your new life together!

Kristyn and Evan

We are SO excited to share today’s wedding with you!!! This fall has been FULL of amazing couples and as we begin to receive their pictures over the next few months, we will have a lot of pretty to share:)

Kristyn and Evan were such a joy to work with!! They planned their wedding to a “t” and knew exactly what they wanted but as a smart DIYer, they knew they were going to have to step back, relax and entrust an extra pair of hands the day-of their wedding to make their dream a reality.

We LOVE working at Whitehall Manor in Bluemont, Virginia; not only does it have historic charm and gorgeous views of the Loudoun country side, the owner and venue coordinator, Douglas, is a top notch professional and master of weddings!! Whitehall Manor is one of the most well run venues in the entire Washington DC area and their staff always does an incredible job and I can’t forget to mention how delicious their food is. I highly recommend their catering services!!!:)

To make the most of their budget we repurposed the bridesmaid bouquets as centerpieces during the reception.   The arrangements that hung along the aisle on shepherds hooks were also reused as centerpieces.   One advantage that our clients receive, is that when we are onsite throughout the entire wedding, we can repurpose the flowers and decor as the event transitions from one space to another.

I’m SO grateful Kristyn & Evan trusted me to help bring their wedding day to life!!  Enjoy!!

Northern Virginia Wedding Planner & Florist – Carlyle Club

Chelsea and Jeffery visited almost every venue in Northern Virginia before concluding that the charm and character of The Carlyle Club in Alexandria was the perfect fit for their wedding. Chelsea and her bridesmaids got ready nearby at Hotel Monaco, a gorgeous hotel whose eclectic design and furniture is a photographers dream for bridal portraits. Hotel Monaco is also pet friendly, so Chelsea’s dog Manee, was able to partake in the festivities of getting ready. Manee even made an appearance during the ceremony! The bridesmaid carried bouquets of all dark pink flowers including roses, calla lilies and gerbera daisies. Chelsea’s bridal bouquet was all white garden roses and gerbera daisies.

Northern Virginia Wedding Planner – Vanessa & Amir

Vanessa & Amir had a beautiful wedding that blended two cultures, Hispanic and Persian. We were thrilled to have been entrusted with the task of setting up the Sofreh Aghd. The Sofreh is an elaborate floor spread set up for the Persian Ceremony (Aghd) that includes different kinds of food and decorations. During the ceremony, the bride and groom sit on a bench and face the Sofreh. Single women or female relatives of the couple hold a fine cloth, over the couple’s head. The women alternate grinding sugar cones over the bride and groom’s head, which is symbolism for adding more sweetness to their life together.

Items that are included in the Sofreh:

  • Mirror and candlesticks: A mirror reflects what is before it, so symbolically it brings the couple abundance and brightness in their future. The candles bring passion and energy. As the story goes, the first thing the groom should see is the face of his beautiful bride reflected in the mirror, lit by the light of the candlesticks.
  • Sweets and candies: for sweetness in life, and offered to guests after the ceremony.
  • Decorated eggs and nuts in their shells: for fertility
  • Gold and silver: for prosperity
  • Fresh flowers: to bring beauty in the couple’s life together
  • Fresh Fruit: for a joyous future
  • Rosewater: to perfume the air and bring beauty
  • Holy book: from whichever religion the couple follows

While guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers, the couple went around Meadowlark Gardens with their photographer, (one of my favorite backdrops for wedding pictures). After cocktail hour the wedding party made their grand entrance, which set the tone for the reception, it was obvious that it was going to be a fun night!

Rebecca & John

Rebecca and John hosted a fabulous New Years Eve wedding at Rockledge Mansion in Occoquan, Virginia.  The ceremony decor was simple, yet romantic, letting the beautiful Crystal Ballroom speak for itself with its elliptical domed ceiling, crystal chandelier, gold chivari chairs and candlelit backdrop.  After the ceremony guests moved into the main house as we quickly transformed the ballroom into a reception space set for dinner.  Guests mingled throughout the rooms, which are full of historical charm and details, some even claim the house is haunted and you could hear people discussing the mysterious hand print found above the fireplace.  Everyone danced the night away wearing New Years eve hats and tiaras with a memorable count down, as the couple rang in 2014 surrounded by their favorite friends and family.   The night wouldn’t have been complete without a picture perfect sparkler exit.  Take a look below to see all the beautiful details!

Goodstone Inn

We had the pleasure of attending an event at the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant in Middleburg this week. The beautiful estate is located on 265-acres in the heart of horse country. Rolling pastures surrounded by picturesque mountains and cozy cottages makes the perfect destination for those looking to experience the true feel of hunt country and gracious southern hospitality. There are several locations throughout the property to host a wedding. For larger weddings (up to 200 people) you can rent the entire property, using the ivy covered facade as a backdrop for the ceremony, the charming carriage house for cocktail hour and a tented reception overlooking the rolling fields and Virginia mountains. Weddings with a maximum of 125 guests can use the lawn adjacent to the French Farm cottage (which is so adorable) and for smaller weddings with less than 75 guests, the reception can take place in the courtyard of the 1940′s stone Manor House.  No matter which location is chosen, they guarantee that no other weddings will be taking place on the property the same weekend.

The catering is done onsite with a focus on fine dining by Executive Chef Benjamin Lambert.  The menus have a predominant Farm to Table emphasis with many of the vegetables and herbs grown onsite or sourced from local gardens and farms.

For more information or to schedule a site tour, contact Event Coordinator Dana Henry dhenry@goodstone.com 540-687-3333.

Jenna & Chris

Jenna & Chris married this past May at one of our favorite wedding venues, the Old School House in the village of Waterford (which is a National Historic Landmark) in Loudoun County Virginia. The couple chose Waterford since they had family and friends from Winchester and Northern Virginia; it was a great location in between both locations that accommodated everyone. The modern color palette of gray and yellow was a fun contrast against the countryside and stone backdrops for their pictures. Their ceremony was held in the field next to the Old School that had shepherds hooks with wildflowers lining the aisle and a white arbor and crystal chandelier as their backdrop. The day before the wedding yellow buttercup flowers popped up and covered the path leading down the aisle, how perfect is that! The guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the patio, as well as, corn hole and ring toss games in the yard, while the wedding party made their way around town taking pictures. The reception room had alternating round and square tables with gray linens, yellow napkins, gold chiavari chairs and centerpieces designed with hydrangea, spray roses, mums and snapdragons. Jenna & Chris, we wish you health and happiness in your life together, we absolutely loved coordinating your wedding and doing your flowers!

Dayne & Corey

Dayne & Corey chose the historic Rockwood Manor to host their spring wedding near Blacksburg, where Dayne grew up. The weather was breezy but the sun was shining and the skies were clear. As guests arrived they gathered in the font yard before making their way down to the ceremony location on the side of the house. Long strands of organza fabric was hung from the trees behind the ceremony stage to create a dramatic backdrop. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of blush pink garden roses that popped off of their green dresses and the groomsmen wore gray suits with pink calla lily boutonnieres. Cocktail hour was held on the side patio and guest enjoyed beverages in mason jars with paper straws and delicious appetizers provided by Blue Ridge Catering. Afterwards guests moved under the pole tent to find their seats. The low arrangements were hydrangea, eucalyptus, spray roses and calla lilies in birch cylinder vases. Dayne had carefully chosen her color palette of seafoam green, pond, jade and peony which was carried throughout the event and even to the seafoam green chiavari chairs. There were so many fun details to capture, sparklers, origami flowers, menu signs, mason jar lanterns, wedding cake, oh my! Congratulations Dayne & Corey what a beautiful wedding!
