Rehearsal Dinner Invitation Wording

Your rehearsal dinner is a pre-wedding celebration that is usually held the day before wedding after rehearsing the ceremony. Typically anyone who will be walking down the aisle and their guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner. Some choose to include extended family and out-of-town guests (which creates a guest list very similar to the wedding) which has lead many couples to opt for a “Welcome Party” where all guests are invited to join rehearsal dinner guests for an open party after dinner. The evening is a great time for any family or friends to meet other guests they do not know yet. Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner costs were covered by the groom’s parents, but vary due to today’s blended budgets.
As guests arrive, they usually enjoy a cocktail and appetizers for about 30 minutes before sitting down for dinner. The formality of the dinner service is typically equal or less than dinner service for the wedding. For example, if you are serving buffet food for the reception, you would not serve a plated meal at the rehearsal dinner. After dinner, the bride and groom usually say thank you to their wedding party and parents and present of small gifts as a sign of their appreciation for a part of their wedding day.

Wedding Invitation Wording: Brides Parents Inviting

Wedding invitation wording can be tricky, so matter how gorgeous your invitations are, it is essential that they are fully functional too! All imperative information such as, who’s getting married, hosting, when, where, time, place and how to RSVP should be included, but now there are details such as your wedding website, map cards and hotel accommodations to also decide on. Not to worry, we are here to help and over the next few weeks we will be sorting through the ins and outs of wedding invitations!   First things first, here are a few standard practices to remember when hosting a formal wedding:

  • Punctuation is never used, except for “Mr.” and “Mrs.” or when phrases requiring separation occur in the same line.
  • Half hours are written as “half after five o’clock” not “five-thirty” or as “half past five.”
  • Numbers in the date are spelled out, as in “the twenty-third day of April,
  • Street addresses are written in numerals: “1234 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
  • When the wedding ceremony is in a house of worship, you use the traditional spelling of  “honour” (using a “u”) for honor and “Favour” in place of favor.
