Your rehearsal dinner is a pre-wedding celebration that is usually held the day before wedding after rehearsing the ceremony. Typically anyone who will be walking down the aisle and their guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner. Some choose to include extended family and out-of-town guests (which creates a guest list very similar to the wedding) which has lead many couples to opt for a “Welcome Party” where all guests are invited to join rehearsal dinner guests for an open party after dinner. The evening is a great time for any family or friends to meet other guests they do not know yet. Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner costs were covered by the groom’s parents, but vary due to today’s blended budgets.
As guests arrive, they usually enjoy a cocktail and appetizers for about 30 minutes before sitting down for dinner. The formality of the dinner service is typically equal or less than dinner service for the wedding. For example, if you are serving buffet food for the reception, you would not serve a plated meal at the reception. After dinner, the bride and groom usually say thank you to their wedding party and parents and present of small gifts as a sign of their appreciation for a part of their wedding day.
